After many successful years supplying property managers, condominiums and home owners with reliable key management solutions and following careful market research, the choice was made to start to supply white bedding and towels for rental properties and hotels.

Linen-etc opens in Salema in the Western Algarve with one company van. Driven by demand Linen-etc.com was launched supplying the trade and delivering across the Algarve to villa management companies, property developers and private homes. Initially the business was launched by son Matthew Love and mum Karen Carfrae. Bringing our vision and values to fruition, our aim was to be socially responsible and to be part of the economy, by buying from Portugal and employing people. To hold stock, to excel at customer service and bring the right products to a hot country that has a big rental market with very specific needs and to supply a guaranteed range of products that wash at 60ºC, was essential. Buying from wholesalers with a stock value of €35000.

Despite the recession, Linen-etc.com continued to grow with an increasing range of products including bedspreads, cushions, curtains and throws and selling European and UK sizes.

A showroom was created in Salema. With an increasing number of customers visiting us, we designed a showroom and increased our warehouse facilities. Buying 30% directly from manufacturers in Portugal with a stock value of €60,000. Team: 3 People.

Time for a move. January 2013 saw Linen- etc.com move from Salema to the EN 125 Budens where we took over one part of a newly refurbished building with some local history, it was the local cooperative shop for Budens until 15 years ago. Now selling every sized fitted sheet 4 single sizes – 2 double -2 king sizes – super king – queen and up to 220 x 220cm, all sheets now manufactured to our specification with30cm deep and washable at 60ºC. A first for Portugal. Introducing products specifically designed for hot countries, Tencel TM, also known as Lyocell is a product that wicks away moisture and is available in pillows, duvets and toppers. This year saw a huge increase in range and design. Team 4 People. Stock Value €100,000

Further growth – further restoration of an adjoining building creating a bigger showroom and warehouse. Creation of our own label which enables us to specify the quality of our products. All towels and sheet ranges wash at 60°C and, above that, we bought in a 100% breathable soft, not noisy, not hot, waterproof mattress protector that washes at 90°C. Team 5 People. Further restoration of the building creating a separate picking and packing area for the increasing deliveries and a bigger warehouse. Increasing our vision of corporate responsibility. Continuing to source fit for purpose products now with four ranges of bedding, from poly cotton to percale to 400 threads. Increasing our sizes of duvets to offer a choice of all European and English sizes. Team 5 People. Stock Value €120,000.

New showroom opens in October, in Lagoa. Linen- etc.com initiates a green path and commences by replacing plastic bags with paper thus reducing their carbon footprint. Beginning of tracing the origin and process of core products made in Portugal. Team 5 People. Stock Value €190.000.

Developing a full range of eco products understanding the journey from growth to sale, classifying and developing a full and sustainable range. Team 6 People. Stock value €190,000.

The first year of the pandemic and like all businesses we downsized but carried on working and delivering linens. We moved our store from Budens to a much larger space in Lagos. Team 6 People. Stock Value €170,000.

Our best ever year of sales despite the prevailing restrictions of the pandemic which saw us close the stores for three months. Team 9 People. Stock Value €170.000.
